legalsuper and UniSuper have moved to bolster their boards with new director appointments, as both super funds reshuffle governance ranks amid director departures and wider leadership transition.
Moira Saville and Joel Tucker will both join legalsuper’s board to replace Richard Flitcroft and Mary Macken who will both be retiring.
Saville, who is a partner at law firm Mallesons, was nominated by the Law Society of New South Wales and Tucker by the United Services Union where he has been an industrial officer since September 2025. He is also an associate at Slater and Gordon Lawyers.
Independent chair, Kirsten Mander, said: “As is our usual practice, two directors retire or seek re-nomination on 31 March each year. Richard and Mary served as legalsuper directors for a combined 11 years and we thank them for their dedication and contribution during that time.
“On behalf of the board, we welcome Moira and Joel to legalsuper and look forward to their contribution as we continue our focus on delivering strong, sustainable outcomes for members across the important metrics of investment performance, member satisfaction and service delivery excellence.”
The board currently consists of Mander, directors Adam Awty, Richard Fleming, Daniel Papps, James Peters, Imogen Sturni, Ronan MacSweeney and Michael Donelly.
The fund is undergoing a period of personnel change as both its chief executive, Luke Symons, and chief investment officer Andrew Lill announced they will be leaving earlier this month.
Symons is moving to be chief executive of Equip Super, replacing Scott Cameron, while Lill is joining Western Australia-based charity Minderoo Foundation as its chief investment officer.
Mander said: “During his time with legalsuper Luke worked with our board and executive team to deliver considerable strategic and structural development for the benefit of our growing membership.
“Evidence of this development is demonstrated by achievements in key performance metrics including sustained top quartile investment returns and solid membership growth combined with strong member satisfaction levels.”
Separately, UniSuper has appointed Scott Henderson as an employer representative director, following the conclusion of Nicole Gower’s term on the board.
UniSuper said Henderson brings more than three decades of executive and board-level experience across capital markets, infrastructure investment, higher education and corporate governance.
He is currently vice-president (corporate services) at Edith Cowan University, where he oversees finance, information technology, buildings and facilities, and commercial operations across an organisation with revenue of $776 million.
In that role, Henderson also serves as an accountable executive for ECU’s City Campus Program and is a director of ECU Holdings Pty Ltd, the university’s investment company.
Earlier in his career, he held chief executive and managing director roles at SkyWest Airlines, Harvey Beef, Netball WA and the West Coast Fever. He also served as a navigation officer in the Royal Australian Navy and held strategy roles at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, and United Airlines.
UniSuper board chair Mark Armour said: “We are delighted to welcome Scott Henderson to the UniSuper Board.”
“His direct experience in capital markets, large-scale infrastructure investment and higher education governance makes him a strong addition to the board. We look forward to the contribution he will make to the fund’s continued focus on delivering great retirement outcomes for members.”
“I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible work of Nicole Gower over more than eight years on UniSuper’s board, Nicole’s contributions were invaluable over this time and on behalf of the board I thank Nicole Gower for her exemplary service.”
