It was announced on 15 April that ESSSuper chief executive, Robby Campo, would be joining HESTA in August to replace Debby Blakey who steps down after a decade.
Campo had been chief executive of ESSSuper since July 2022, an industry fund with 121,000 members and $39.5 billion in assets.
Prior to joining ESSSuper, Campo spent five years at Cbus as group executive for brand, engagement, advocacy and product and is also chair of industry organisation Women in Super.
The exit of Campo means ESSSuper joins legalsuper and First Super in conducting CEO searches after recent departures. Luke Symons has left legalsuper to take up the CEO role at Equip Super while Bill Watson left First Super to join BUSSQ.
ESSSuper said it will commence a “thorough executive search” for a new leader but did not give a timeline on how long this would take or whether an individual would be appointed by the time Campo departs.
However, it has a “strong and well credentialled executive team” to ensure a seamless handover which includes Brett Chatfield, George Boubouras, Michael Dundon and Mary Robinson on the board as well as Daniel Selioutine as chief investment officer and Stuart Wilkinson as chief member officer.
President, Pam Rebecca, said: “We were the first organisation to have the benefit of Robbie’s leadership as CEO. Her appointment by HESTA is a recognition of her impeccable character, leadership skills and expertise, while also reflecting well on the work she has done leading ESSSuper for the past four years.
“Her focus on delivering strong member outcomes has been done with her characteristic warm, collaborative and engaging style. She has built a strong, capable and outcomes focused team. Our organisation is now primed to take further steps to implement our strategic priorities.”
