Prime Super has appointed former Brighter Super chief investment officer (CIO) Mark Rider as general manager, investments, marking his return to an executive investment leadership role after stepping away from Brighter Super last year.
Rider will commence in July 2026, succeeding Michael McQueen, who recently left the fund to become head of investments at First Super.
In the role, Rider will lead Prime Super’s investment team, oversee investment strategy and portfolio management, and help strengthen the fund’s internal investment capability as it continues to grow.
Prime Super chief executive, Raelene Seales, said Rider’s appointment would bolster the fund’s investment leadership.
“Mark’s depth of experience and leadership in investment management will be invaluable to our team. We’re excited about the perspective he brings and the role he’ll play in shaping what’s ahead.”
Rider brings almost four decades of experience across superannuation, banking, investment management and macroeconomics.
Before joining Prime Super, Rider served as CIO at Brighter Super, where he helped integrate investment operations following the merger of LGIAsuper and Energy Super and during the acquisition of Suncorp Super.
Brighter Super said that during Rider’s tenure it strengthened its investment governance and reporting, reshaped its strategic asset allocation, increased allocations to infrastructure, reduced reliance on credit and expanded investment in Queensland assets.
Earlier in his career, Rider was CIO at Christian Super, chief investment officer for wealth and private banking at ANZ, Australian chief economist at UBS and began his career at the Reserve Bank of Australia.
After announcing his departure from Brighter Super last year, Rider said he intended to enter semi-retirement and pursue consulting and board opportunities following nearly 40 years in financial services. His appointment at Prime Super marks a return to a full-time executive role.
Prime Super manages approximately $8.4 billion on behalf of more than 140,000 members and has continued to build its investment capability while reducing administration fees across its accumulation and pension products.
