MetLife Insurance has announced a new head of distribution.

The company has appointed Mike Goodall to take over from Peter Smith, who has moved to MetLife US to take up a role in MetLife's Global Employee Benefits business.

"I am delighted to welcome Mike to the Australia team," CEO of MetLife Australia Marc Lieberman said.

"He brings a vast wealth of experience in global financial services to this strategically important position, and will be pivotal in continuing the growth and success of MetLife in Australia's Group and Direct insurance business."

Goodall was previously vice president and regional head of bank distribution at MetLife Asia. He oversaw strategic engagement with bank partners in Asia, broadening sales and distribution channels.

He has worked in ANZ, ING, Zurich and AMP, and he also runs his own financial planning business.

Goodall is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Finsia and the Financial Planning Association of Australia.
