Queensland-based Sunsuper has started the year with a growth spurt, announcing in early February the creation of two new marketing and business development positions as well as a new legal counsel role within its regulatory compliance team.

Geoff Duncan has been appointed as Sunsuper’s Business Manager, to be based in Melbourne and supporting the fund’s Melbourne-based corporate clients with the transition and ongoing support of their superannuation arrangements.

Duncan, who has over 30years’ experience in the superannuation industry, was previously a Principal with Mercer Human Resources.

Sunsuper has also announced that Wayne Sullivan has been appointed as Marketing Manager, to be based in Sunsuper’s Brisbane head office.

Sullivan was formerly marketing manager with the $14bn QSuper, and has 20 years’ experience in financial services marketing, gathered across a broad range of disciplines. As part of this role, he was heavily involved in the corporate identity merger of several separate schemes into QSuper, along with the brand development and corporate identity for the QInvest financial planning group.

Prior to QSuper, Sullivan spent a number of years with Suncorp working in the Insurance, Life & Super and Building Society divisions.

On the compliance side of the equation, Sunsuper has appointed long-serving Minter Ellison lawyer, Stephen Cullen, as Legal Counsel.

As Legal Counsel, Cullen will oversee all legal requirements for Sunsuper and coordinate an existing team of compliance professionals.

Tyndall has moved to further extend its geographic reach in Australia with the appointment of Cormac McKenna as a business development manager (BDM) based in Perth.

McKenna’s appointment follows the opening of a Tyndall office in Melbourne - the first time the company has operated outside of Sydney.

McKenna has sixteen years experience in financial services, working with several organisations in South Africa including Standard Bank of South Africa, Liberty Life Association of South Africa, and most recently Metropolitan Life. He has held positions including product manager and senior business development consultant.

McKenna will report to Ms Jennifer Davies, Tyndall's national distribution manager based in Sydney.

Former head of the BT Financial Group’s technical team, Kevin Smith has joined boutique financial planning firm Swanton & Davidson in Melbourne.

Swanton & Davidson specialise in high level financial planning for Corporate Executives and in the provision of Self Managed Superannuation services.

Smith has an honours degree in Economics and Accounting from Bristol University, UK. He began his career with KPMG in London and was transferred to Sydney in 1987. In 1994 he joined the funds management industry, holding senior positions at MLC, Rothschild and BT. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (Financial Planning Specialist) and has recently completed the educational requirements for admission as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Smith co-authored the “BT Super Book” which is published by CCH.

State Street Corporation announced in early February that William W Hunt had been appointed appointed to head up its asset management arm, State Street Global Advisors.

Hunt, who will carry the title of president and chief executive of SsgA, succeeds Timothy B. Harbert, who died in August, last year. He will report to the chairman and chief executive of State Street, Ronald E. Logue.

Hunt’s appointment represents a return to State Street Global Advisors, after he left to head up the Group’s Global Relationship Management Group.

Hunt first worked for SSgA in 1994 as managing director of its Tokyo office, before returning to Boston in 2001 to oversee the SSgA’s international business.

Prior to joining State Street, Hunt was with the American International Group (AIG), where he served as senior investment officer for Japan and Korea. He holds a bachelors degree from Bates College in Maine and a masters of international business from the University of South Carolina.
