A code of practice has been developed to help industry superannuation funds improve the management of insurance claims where mental health is a factor.
The code of practice was launched at the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees insurance symposium this week, and was developed by the Industry Funds Forum Mental Health foundation, known as SuperFriend.
The code of practice covers the life of an insurance claim, and was developed collaboratively with representatives from the insurance, superannuation and mental health sectors.
SuperFriend company secretary, Helen Hewett, said the guidelines were designed to give funds strategies to improve processes, reduce claim turnaround times and offer greater levels of service through better communications with the member.
“They are designed to provide an end-to-end framework for funds concerned about the incidence of mental illness within their membership,” she said.
