The former chairman of ColonialFirstState and chief executive of Challenger Financial Service’s wealth management division, Chris Cuffe, has joined the board of industry fund Unisuper.
Unisuper this week announced the appointment of Cuff along with another new board member, former chief investment officer with AMP Capital Investors Mervyn Peacock.
The superannuation fund said the two men joined the board as independent directors, with Peacock becoming chair of the board’s investment committee.
The two appointments see the Unisuper board expand by 11 members, and bring the number of independent directors to three.
Unisuper said the expansion was intended to deepen the mix of commercial skills and experience available to the fund.
AMP’s strong 2024–25 returns were anything but a fluke – they were the product of a carefully recalibrated investment strategy that began several years ago, when the fund first became truly cognisant of its shortcomings.
ASIC is “considering what options” it has to hold super trustees to account for including the failed schemes on their platforms, according to its deputy chair.
Vanguard Super has reported strong returns across most of its investment options, attributed to a “low-cost, index-based approach”.
The fund has achieved double-digit returns amid market volatility, reinforcing the value of long-term investment strategies for its members.
