Educating Members

The implementation of the new choice of superannuation fund regime has driven a significant upsurge in member education, according to the latest data released by AMP Corporate Superannuation.

That data shows that in the first six months of this year, AMP conducted 1,667 face-to-face seminars — nearly 200 more than it did for the whole of 2004, with 60 per cent of those seminars focused on choice of superannuation fund.

AMP corporate superannuation director said much of the demand for member education had been driven by increased awareness around the introduction of choice of superannuation.

“Consequently, whenever we made extra seminars or better online education services available, the demand was strong,” he said.

Healy said the statistics collected by AMP were indicative of the wider thirst for knowledge about financial matters in the community.

“When consumers have access to information about a topic that is fundamentally important to them, they will take advantage of it,” he said. “That is why it is vital for the to receive ongoing support from the Government and the finance industry.”
