HSBC has appointed its former head of wholesale distribution in global investments, Geoffrey Pidgeon, as head of global investments in Australia. Pidgeon will be responsible for the bank's wholesale wealth management business.
HSBC Bank Australia's head of global markets, Gavin Powell, said Pidgeon's leadership experience and knowledge of the complex wholesale wealth management market would help HSBC strengthen its foothold in the wealth management sector.
Pidgeon has more than 13 years experience in the wealth management industry. He joins HSBC from Macquarie Bank, where he was most recently head of retail sales for the Macquarie Funds Group, and also worked for Rothschild Australia Asset Management.
HSBC Global Asset Management has local investment teams in more than 30 countries and total assets under management of US$444.6 billion, with emerging markets representing US$103 billion of this.
The two funds have announced the signing of a non-binding MOU to explore a potential merger.
