legalsuper has ceased its membership to the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) but has kept its membership to the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST).

The industry superannuation fund was asked by the Standing Committee on Economics what payments to research organisations or think tanks they had made over the last five years.

The fund said it had made payments each year to ASFA, AIST, and Industry Super Australia (ISA).

However, for 2021 legalsuper said it had ceased membership of ASFA.

In a statement to Super Review, legalsuper said: “As part of the annual budget process, legalsuper determined to rationalise expenditure on membership of industry associations, resulting in a decision to cease membership of the ASFA for the 21/22 financial year.

“legalsuper retained its membership of AIST with the increase in membership fees attributed mainly to a change in AIST’s billing cycle from calendar year to financial year, and a slight increase in annual membership charges.”
