Partners Group has collaborated with Thomson Reuters to develop a private real estate data collection and analysis index for institutional investors.
The Partners Group Thomson Reuters Private Real Estate Index will aim to provide standardised industry data for global real estate across opportunistic and value-add strategies, according to Partners Group.
Thomson Reuters will be responsible for data management and the publication of the detailed survey reports and Partners Group will provide continuous data collection and analysis from its network of industry partners.
The index is the first to objectively measure performance within the private real estate asset class, according to Partners Group.
The index will be published semi-annually and is currently computed from data on 280 funds provided by around 60 firms.
To be included into the index a fund needs to have a closed-ended structure and pursue a value-added or opportunistic strategy, and secondary funds or funds-of-funds are not included. About 60 per cent of funds in the database are opportunistic and 40 per cent are value-add.
The index is accessed via a paid subscription to Thomson Reuters, and a subset of data is available free to participants in the survey.
