State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) has appointed former GMO portfolio manager Olivia Engel as head of active Australian equities, replacing Anthony Golowenko.
Golowenko is moving to a newly created position of senior product engineer, and both Golowenko and Engel will work in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific head of investments, Lochiel Crafter, according to SSgA.
Engel will report to SSgA’s head of Active Equities, developed markets, Marc Reinganum.
“Olivia has deep experience with Australian equities and quantitative portfolio management and we are thrilled to welcome her to our team,” Reinganum said.
“Olivia will lead our efforts in Australia to continuously evolve our models to ensure the greatest level of flexibility to respond to various macroeconomic and investment environments,” he added.
Prior to her role at GMO Engel was involved in active quantitative investing at Commonwealth Investment Management and Colonial First State. She also has experience in domestic and international equities, strategy and asset allocation, business development and infrastructure investment, according to SSgA.
