Women more savvy on co-contribution

Leading Tasmanian-based superannuation fund Quadrant Super has released new research confirming women are proving savvier than men in the new choice of superannuation fund and co-contribution environment.

According to Quadrant, 20,000 Tasmanian women accessed the Federal Government’s superannuation co-contribution regime in the December quarter, compared to just 15,000 men.

Commenting on the figures, Quadrant Super chief executive Wayne Davy said it suggested women understood they were at a disadvantage and therefore needed to be more financially on the ball.

“They know that saving can be tougher for them, particularly if they have to take a break from the workforce to take care of family,” he said.

Davy urged young Tasmanians to take advantage of the co-contribution regime in circumstances where under 25-year-olds accounted for just over 10 per cent of all Tasmanians who accessed the scheme last financial year.

“With most young Tasmanians earning well below $58,000, there is a lot of money to be made,” he said.
