The Australian Taxation Office has launched a major advertising and information campaign based on the Government’s new superannuation co-contributions regime.
The campaign, which kicked off in late March, is aimed at employees earning less than $40,000 a year encouraging them to make personal superannuation contributions.
The ATO campaign has seen advertisements placed in a range of national magazines, particularly those specialising in superannuation and retirement incomes.
The core message being sold in the national awareness program is that the Government will match personal contributions of up to $1000, dollar for dollar for those earning up to $27,500. For those earning more than $27,500 but less than $40,000, the super co-contribution will be adjusted based on their income and how much they personally contribute.
Deputy Commissioner of Taxation for Superannuation Mark Jackson has made clear that no application is necessary and that those who are eligible simply need make the personal contribution and lodge an income tax return.
