The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) has sought to position itself as the non-partisan voice of the superannuation industry.
In what appeared to be a clear differentiation between ASFA and industry fund organisations, ASFA independent chairman and former NSW Labor Council official, Michael Easson opened the ASFA national conference in Brisbane saying the organisation sought to be the credible, independent representative voice of the superannuation industry.
He said that ASFA would be pursuing its representative role via evidence-based submissions on the key issues facing the industry.
In doing so, Easson pointed to the position adopted by ASFA with respect to the Government’s changes to superannuation fund governance and, in particular, retention of equal representation alongside one-third independent directors.
Easson said he believed it was important that the views of the superannuation industry were being appropriately heard in Canberra.
