The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) revealed in March that it was experiencing processing problems which were preventing it from issuing superannuation surcharge notices and advices that were due to be issued in the middle of February.
The ATO said the problems affected superannuation fund members, administrators and the funds themselves, and it was likely that the February surcharge notifications would be made in May.
“This means assessments will have a May 15, 2006, issue date and, in most cases, the due date for payment will be June 15, 2006,” the ATO said.
It said the February processing problems would further impact the next scheduled assessment run and that, therefore, the May 2006 assessment would be issued with the August 2006 surcharge run.
