Aware Super has appointed former Future Fund chief investment officer, Sue Brake, to its trustee board.
Effective from 1 January 2026, she will replace outgoing director Patricia Faulkner who departs the $205 billion fund after nine years.
Brake has been an independent member of the Aware Super Investment Committee since April 2025 and brings more than 30 years of capital markets and investment leadership experience to the board role.
She previously served as chief investment officer of the Future Fund, Australia’s sovereign wealth fund, from 2020 to 2022. She also has overseas experience, having served as a senior investment strategist at New Zealand Superannuation, New Zealand’s sovereign wealth fund, and as a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s investment and risk advisory panel.
Aware Super chair Christine McLoughlin AM said: “We are delighted to welcome Sue Brake to our Board. Sue’s exceptional investment expertise and deep understanding of portfolio construction, risk management and governance will be invaluable as we continue to deliver strong retirement outcomes for our 1.2 million members.
“Sue’s experience in emerging technologies including AI will serve our members well as we continue to innovate in service, investments and advice for their benefit.”
Brake was nominated to the board by the Victorian State Government following a comprehensive search process.
The board currently consists of McLoughlin, directors Roslyn Ramwell, John Dixon, Philip Moffit, Stewart Little, Leigh Clarke, Erin Aulich, Deborah Picone, Lloyd Williams and Lisa Fitzpatrick.
In October, Aware appointed Simon Warner as chief investment officer (CIO) following a global search to replace outgoing Damian Graham. Warner, who joined Aware Super in 2023 as head of portfolio management, will lead the fund’s 160-person investment team that manages its members’ superannuation savings across equities, fixed income, infrastructure, property, and private equity.
Before joining Aware, Warner held several executive positions, including global head of public markets at AMP and, prior to that, as global CIO and co-head of global equities and fixed income.
He also previously served as CIO for Australia and New Zealand at JPMorgan Chase, among other senior positions at the firm held across London, Singapore, and Sydney.
