SMSF specialist firm Heffron has announced the launch of Super Foundations, a short course to upskill new starters in the superannuation industry.

The newest course in its Learning Centre, it would provide a solid foundation for those new to superannuation and self-managed super funds (SMSFs), covering topics like contributions, SMSF investments, superannuation taxes, running an SMSF, and getting money out of super.

The course was “the natural next step in Heffron’s educational offering”, according to managing director Meg Heffron.

“Super Foundations has been created based on customer feedback that they needed a short, easy to understand course to upskill junior employees or employees who were simply new to super and SMSFs,” she said.

“It also works perfectly for our own new starters who come to us with a variety of backgrounds and experience but need to get up to speed quickly.”

It would consist of two learning pathways: seven short, self-paced online learning modules that would take 30 to 45 minutes each and could be completed at any time over three months; or two intensive online webinars of three hours each, delivered across two weeks.

Heffron added, “We want our clients to be able to choose the most effective learning method for them and we know it isn’t always possible for staff to take a whole day out for training. Our solution enables course attendees to incorporate this into their busy working week.”

Both pathways would include assessments to earn CPD certification during and upon finishing the course.

“They are very much designed to help those just starting their superannuation journey to get across the key concepts, understand some of the language and have a base level of knowledge about superannuation,” Heffron explained.

“We know that not everyone wants to become a superannuation expert but many people need a simple introduction that helps them get started.”
