Burns will commence the newly created role in January 2012, and will report to Schroders’ head of Australian equities Martin Conlon.
In his new role, Burns will co-manage the Australian smaller companies and microcap portfolios with senior portfolio manager David Wanis. He will also be in charge of analysing a range of stocks and sectors within the small and microcap universe.
“Adding to an already strong team, we are confident that Marcus’ insights and breadth of investment knowledge will be invaluable in ensuring that our research efforts translate into strong client outcomes,” Conlon said.
Burns has 11 years investment management experience, which includes five years with Schroders between 1997 and 2002. Conlon said Burns was well known to the Sydney team, and the appointment was a good cultural fit.
