On the subject of the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds, Rollover notes the respect paid to industry funds stalwart, Mavis Robertson, who passed away just weeks out from the Queensland Conference – the 25th CMSF.
Mavis was a ubiquitous figure at CMSF conferences and it was revealed to delegates that she and the likes of Garry Weaven were amongst the few to have attended every such event since they were established in 1995.
While Rollover has always recognised that while Mavis and Garry have been stalwart supporters of the industry funds movement, their journeys were markedly different and while Mavis certainly didn’t spend any time working for Westpac, nor did Garry venture to Mao’s Beijing.
Perhaps that explains why, in her eulogy to Mavis, Fiona Reynolds referenced her desire to make it to the 25th CMSF and not leave the limelight entirely to Weaven.
Mavis needn’t have worried. While Garry was there in person, the homage paid to Mavis meant she was certainly there in spirit.
