Franklin Templeton Investments Australia has appointed two Australian fixed income specialists to its local investment team.

It comes as the firm looks to launch a range of absolute return fixed income solutions for the Australian market.

It appointed Chris Siniakov as managing director, fixed income, and Andrew Canobi as director, fixed income to its local investment team.

Siniakov and Canobi have 20 years’ experience in fixed income portfolios.

Siniakov was previously head of fixed income Asia Pacific at Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management.

Canobi also worked there as director and senior portfolio manager, global fixed income. He headed the Australian investment team responsible for the management of institutional fixed income investment portfolios.

The firm is looking for positive returns with low correlation to growth assets through its fixed income strategies.

The team will focus on macro strategies and targeting securities with real yields and liquidity.

“Diversification across investment capabilities and market segments is an important part of our long-term business strategy,” managing director Maria Wilton said.

“Following the acquisition of Australian equity manager Balanced Equity Management in 2011, we are very pleased to be able to add a local fixed income capability, which we believe will be important to meeting the demands of our clients and address the growth opportunities we are seeing.”
