Large block trader Liquidnet has appointed a sales and relationship manager to its Australian operation following consecutive record-breaking quarters for its Asia-Pacific operations.
Former Instinet equity trader Tristan Baldwin has been appointed to the sales and relationship manager role. He will report to the head of Liquidnet Australia, James Chatfield, and work with asset management firms who use Liquidnet to source and execute their block trades.
Chatfield said Baldwin's addition was part of Liquidnet's expanding its role as a major provider of block liquidity for institutions. Baldwin bring 15 years sell-side experience with Instinet, Deutsche Bank and UBS.
The appointment follows consecutive record-breaking quarters for Liquidnet, which traded more than $5 billion across 10 markets in the region during the March and June quarters.
In the June quarter Liquidnet Australia's average daily liquidity pool was $2 billion. Its average trade size was $1.5 million more than 300 times larger than the Australian market's average trade size over the corresponding period.
