Rollover acknowledges that 24 hours is a long time in politics, but he wonders whether people were being far too dismissive of comments by the Federal Treasurer, Joe Hockey, that there would be no changes to superannuation taxation in this year’s Budget.
By Rollover’s reckoning, Hockey gave his undertaking regarding Budget superannuation tax changes on a Monday morning, only to have them seriously questioned by various and sundry industry commentators by that same Monday afternoon.
Perhaps some of the industry cynicism around Government promises about superannuation tax changes is owed to the fact that there is a Tax White Paper in the offing where all such things are on the table.
Rollover believes that the absence of superannuation tax changes in the Budget represents a postponement rather than a cancellation.
