Super Review announced 21 winners at the annual Super Fund of the Year Awards, including the recipient of the prestigious Fund of the Year Award.

Following 11 years of setting the benchmark for excellence across the super fund industry, the annual Super Fund of the Year Awards culminated in a black-tie gala tonight (Thursday, 31 October 2024) at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, to celebrate the best in business across the super fund sector.

The unparalleled Super Fund of the Year Awards, hosted in collaboration with principal partner MLC, celebrated the 21 winners, who were selected from several group and individual categories such as MySuper of the Year, MyChoice Super of the Year, Sustainable Super of the Year, and Marketer of the Year.

The prestigious awards recognised the top super funds, trustees, institutions, and executives, as well as boutique challengers and the rising stars of tomorrow.

Over 300 members of the super fund and financial services industry joined this year’s ceremony, where attendees had the opportunity to network with leaders and peers while celebrating the achievements of the industry’s best.

Australian stand-up comedian, actor, television and radio presenter Dave Thornton assumed emcee duties and provided light and laughter throughout the evening.

All eyes were on who would take home the much-anticipated Fund of the Year award, the top prize of the awards program.

Aware Super was announced as the worthy recipient of this year’s Fund of the Year award, with the industry superannuation fund also walking away with three other awards earlier in the evening.

As one of Australia’s largest profit for members super fund, Aware Super serves over one million members across a range of sectors. Aware Super is committed to delivering strong long-term investment returns for members while prioritising the financial wellbeing of those it serves through sustainability and ethical practices.

Aware Super was also awarded MyChoice Super of the Year, Smooth Ride and Best Digital Offering.
Other company winners include Australian Retirement Trust as MySuper of the Year, HESTA as Net Benefit, and Australian Ethical Super as Sustainable Fund of the Year.

UniSuper, Colonial First State, Hostplus, Brighter Super, NGS Super, TelstraSuper, legalsuper, CareSuper, and Rest rounded out the company winners.

In the individual categories, Linda Cunningham of Cbus Super walked away with the Industry Thought Leader of the Year award, while Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation’s Matthew Wong was named Marketer of the Year.

For over a decade, the Super Fund of the Year Awards has set the benchmark for excellence across the super fund industry, captivating advisors, institutions, and investors alike.

Winning a coveted Super Fund of the Year award is a game-changer in an industry characterised by fierce competition and rapid evolution.

Australian Super and Australian Retirement Trust account for more than half of all new retirement savings contributions. Morningstar’s analysis also reports that 93 per cent of funds have shut or merged in the last 20 years, leading to an even tighter super fund market.

This creates a highly competitive environment, with the Super Fund of the Year awards not only providing the opportunity to highlight a fund’s commitment to excellence and member outcomes but can also open doors for industry partnerships and attract new members.

In a landscape where differentiation is key, such recognition serves as a powerful tool for a fund’s reputation

The winners were selected by a judging panel spanning academics, business executives, entrepreneurs, and innovators, using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and underpinned by SuperRatings’ annual review.

Assessment by a peer-reviewed panel ensures that winners are recognised for financial expertise and commitment to advancing the industry, as evaluated by industry peers.

“We congratulate all the deserving winners, who have once again showcased the extraordinary dedication and innovation within Australia’s super fund industry,” managing editor of wealth management, Maja Garaca Djurdjevic said.

“These awards highlight the very best in business, celebrating those who not only deliver strong financial results but also pioneer positive change and inspire confidence across the superannuation landscape.”
