International asset manager Threadneedle Investments has partnered with STANLIB to manage over US$800 million of the South African investment manager's global and emerging market equity portfolios.
STANLIB manages over US$44 billion for retail and institutional clients and partners with offshore asset managers for its offshore investment range.
Threadneedle was chosen after an 18-month review process, with STANLIB noting the alignment of both companies' investment philosophies.
STANLIB chief executive Thabo Dloti said it was important for the manager to partner with a company that shares its investment philosophy.
"STANLIB and Threadneedle share an investment culture and philosophy, and we are able to cross-pollinate investment ideas and leverage Threadneedle's expertise for the benefit of local clients. We also believe that Threadneedle will provide our clients with international equity management in line with best of breed," he said.
Threadneedle's head of global distribution Campbell Fleming said, "This arrangement will allow investors based in Africa to access Threadneedle's investment expertise, and supports our ongoing international growth. We are excited to be working with STANLIB and look forward to further building on this relationship in the future."
Threadneedle has steadily been expanding its global footprint and was chosen, in principle, as investment manager for UK Select Trust Limited in June.
