The fund has announced new additions to its trustee board.

Jan Swinhoe and Teifi Whatley have joined Vanguard Super as independent directors to its trustee board.

Swinhoe brings more than three decades in financial services to the role, spanning superannuation, insurance, and banking. Her last executive role was at the helm of Westpac Group’s private bank.

She began her non-executive career in 2011 and has since held non-executive director positions at IMB Bank, Suncorp Portfolio Services, and Mercer Investments.

Swinhoe was also chair of Mercer Superannuation Australia, having served on the board for 10 years, and is currently a director of Swiss Re (Life & Health and Property & Casualty) and Australian Philanthropic Services.

Whatley similarly brings more than 30 years of financial services experience to the trustee board, spanning customer, product, and technology roles in large institutions both in Australia and the UK.

According to Vanguard Super, she was most recently chief strategy officer at Australian Retirement Trust, where she was responsible for developing the merged fund’s strategic direction, with oversight of transformation, corporate affairs, product, and policy.

Moreover, Whatley was interim CEO of Sunsuper prior to its merger with QSuper and has also led Sunsuper’s strategy, brand, and marketing functions.

Commenting on the two appointments, Vanguard Super chair Peggy O’Neal welcomed the duo to the fund.

“We are delighted to welcome Jan and Teifi to VSPL. As veterans of the superannuation industry, both Jan and Teifi bring significant experience and diverse skills to VSPL, adding to our existing depth and breadth of expertise,” O’Neal said on Tuesday.

“It’s been a little over two years since Vanguard Super has been in market and we’re proud of the progress we’re making in bringing superannuation products to Australians that are low-cost, easy to understand, simple to invest in and straightforward to manage.

“I look forward to working alongside Jan and Teifi as we continue on our mission to deliver better retirement outcomes to all Australians.”

In August, the fund announced that Jeremy Duffield would be retiring as a director.

Duffield, who was previously the founding chairman and managing director of Vanguard Investments Australia before he retired in 2010, was appointed to the board when the company was established in August 2020.

During this time, he has also served as chair of the remuneration committee.
